Finish & Design

My passion is transforming ordinary areas into extraordinary spaces that you’ll enjoy for years to come.

What’s In A Name?

Four penny is a type, or size, of small hand nail, which is used for finish carpentry. I chose this name because of the obvious relation to finish carpentry, but also because my daughter’s name is Penelope, and she was born on the 4th.

My Background

I’ve been around carpentry since the age of 10. My dad bought an old dilapidated farm house, and we got right to work restoring it. I helped as much as I could, and we both learned a lot as we went. I was instantly hooked. From bike ramps to treehouses, I was always designing and building something. Right out of high school I started my first company, doing small remodels and additions. After just two years, I was recruited by a large company in Boston, where I’d spend the next six years fine-tuning my craft, while restoring some of the most historically significant houses in Boston. Although I wasn’t credited for it, it was a great accomplishment to see my work in Architectural Digest, at the age of 24. In 2010, the owner of the company retired, and the company was dissolved. Without skipping a beat, I started a new business, where I continued focusing on custom installations and finish carpentry. With a growing family, and plans to relocate from Boston to Charleston on the horizon, it was time for a fresh look, and in January of 2019, Four Penny LLC was created.

Now serving the greater Charleston area.
